Life Events Baptisms

Baptism is initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ. We typically offer baptism four times a year in our 10:00 AM Sunday service. The upcoming dates are November 9, 2014 (after All Saints Day), January 11, 2015 (Epiphany); April 12, 2015 (Second Sunday of Easter); and May 24, 2015 (Pentecost). We baptize adults who have been prepared through our baptism class. We baptize infants whose parents are baptized Christians and have taken the baptism class. When infants or young children are baptized, their parents and godparents make promises on their behalf. The children are to be raised at home and in the church in the knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who are baptized must have at least one sponsor (commonly called godparents for children). To sign up for our baptism class, contact the church office. For questions about what baptism means, how to prepare, and other questions, please contact the Rector.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacramental rite by which those baptized as infants take on the promises of the Baptismal Covenant for themselves in the community of faith with the laying on of hands by the Bishop. Typically, Confirmation is offered once a year in our 10:00 AM Sunday service during the Bishop’s annual visitation. Confirmation is offered for students in 8th grade and up. In addition, on Confirmation Sundays, those confirmed in other traditions may be received into the Episcopal Church. A confirmation class is required, and is offered several times a year. Please contact the Rector if you or your child would like to be confirmed.

Marriage

To be married at St. Alban’s, at least one member of the couple must be a baptized member of the church. All couples are required to take our Marriage Preparation Class. This course involves reading, a Pre-marriage Inventory, and four meetings with one of our clergy. For information about fees, wedding policies, and any other matter about weddings at St. Alban’s, please see our Wedding Guidebook: Weddings at St. Alban’s.

Funerals

Funerals in the Episcopal Church are filled with the Scriptures that point to the great hope we have in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our burial liturgy provides powerful and hopeful words that provide great comfort in a time of grief. Our altar guild, music staff, and clergy are committed to helping families through the difficult time after a loved one’s death. For information on funerals, or funeral planning, please call the church office or contact the Rector. (Please note: if a family member or friend is near death, please notify the Rector as soon as possible.)

Youth St. Alban’s

Youth

St. Alban’s is committed to helping reveal Christ’s love and care for students in an environment that is fun and welcoming. Students have the opportunity to belong in a group and learn about who Jesus is, so that they may live the life of love and service he modeled. The Ministry’s goal is to equip students to become servant-leaders in their home, church, schools, and communities. This is done through prayer, knowledge of the Bible, serving others, and support from one another. All students are welcome!

St Alban’s Student Ministry is led by Grace Brown. Please contact her with any questions.

MIDWEEK

During the academic year, junior high and high school students meet on Wednesday nights from 6:00-8:00 PM for dinner and an interactive lesson on how we live out our faith. These lessons are scripturally based and geared towards the issues students face. This will be a great way to grow in faith and better understand the Gospel and what it means to follow Jesus.

Sunday School

During the academic year, we meet every Sunday at 9am for Junior High and High School Students.

In our Sunday School time, we will be discovering how to grow in faith, leadership, and the ability to form meaningful relationships through the study of different books of the Bible.  Our ministry’s goal is to help expand students’ knowledge and understanding of the Bible, so that they are supported in their faith and empowered to explore God’s Word on their own.

How to Find Us

All events are in the Student Ministry Room, on the second floor of the St. Alban’s Outreach Center. Enter through the Outreach Center doors on 30th St. On Sundays, you can also enter the Outreach Center through the wooden double doors in the Sunday School building.

Charting Our Course

How We Started

In the summer of 2014, the leadership saw the need for a comprehensive strategic planning process for St. Alban’s. This strategic plan was to guide our mission and ministry, rethink our vision, and help provide the framework to guide us into the next five years of our life together.

This process resulted in a clarified Mission Statement and redefined Core Values in September 2014.

Task Forces

In addition, six task forces were commissioned to develop long term goals and intermediate objectives. These groups met many times over the fall to develop plans for the five areas identified in the parish visioning events as important to our future: Children and Youth (Laura Burton, Chair), Outreach and Mission (broken into two separate committees; Chairs: Erin Skelton and Jeff Tanner, respectively), Adult Christian Formation (Dennis Guill, Chair), Membership and Growth (Dean Riley, Chair), and Fellowship/Community (John Wood, Chair). Their hard work has produced exciting plans and goals for the future. Their initial reports can be found in our 2014 Annual Report.

The Work Ahead

Now that these plans are nearing completion, two additional groups are forming to create strategies for providing the resources necessary to carry out these plans. These groups are Facilities and Finance. Facilities will develop a master plan for our buildings and grounds, while Finance will tackle any capital campaign requirements, as well as develop plans for building the Endowment Fund. Further, each of the six task forces have re-constituted as standing committees to carry out those plans. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the church office with your preferred area of service.
